Student Transportation of America, the bus company contracted with the Springfield School District, mistakenly sent students' names and bus route information Monday night to all district families who were eligible for the bus, SSD said in a statement.
"The error was made by one of its employees in earnest. Once the employee realized the error was made, attempts were made to retract the email; unfortunately, the software did not allow this error to be retracted," school district officials said.
The situation has been addressed and measures have been put into place to prevent the incident from re-occurring, officials added.
"SSD is deeply apologetic for this contractor error. We realize that the safety of our children is paramount," they said.
Officials noted that all students who rode the bus Tuesday morning made it to school safely.
